Friends, I know what you’re thinking:
Where the hell has Rebecca been?
Did Chris do something to Rebecca?
If Chris did do something to Rebecca, should we alert the authorities?
And finally: Did Rebecca travel in a time portal two years ago, discover that there was going to be a plague in 2020, and transport herself to an unspecified future time/future place (let’s go with island) where she has taken a lover (let’s go with Jason Momoa—sorry/not sorry to my actual husband) and on which she is waiting out the plague while getting fabulously fat on rum drinks and, let’s go with almond-filled croissants?
What’s that you say? You need a visual? You got it:
So it’s basically this…
…except I’m the surfboard.
Anyway, none of that happened.
But there is some good news, and a very specific reason for why I’ve disappeared from this blog. And that reason, believe it not, are that my long-dormant writing career, which looked for all its might like it was going to follow my long-dormant acting career into the “Things Rebecca Used to Want to Be” file, has somehow, quite miraculously, taken off lately.
My young adult novel Down World won an award called a Watty Award last year, and while you’ve never heard of that, it’s significant for the reason that it brought the book to the attention of Wattpad Books (I know, I know, you’ve never heard of them, it’s fine; they’re only a year old), and Wattpad Books will be PUBLISHING DOWN WORLD in March of 2021 (I know, right!), and there’s even a possibility (though I shouldn’t even say this because I don’t want to jinx it—oh, what the hell, I’m saying it; we’re all friends here) that Wattpad Studios might be able to adapt the material at some point into a TV show.
So all of this is a rather long-winded (and I’m assuming, by this point in the article, annoyingly perky) way of saying that this little blog that Chris and I started because we were told “writers have blogs” and we didn’t know what else to blog about if not our love of adapted movies and TV shows, might some day in the near future ACTUALLY BE A BLOG ABOUT ME!
It’s like I’m staring into a mirror, staring into a mirror, and so forth.
All of this is just my way of saying that I’VE MISSED YOU and I’m sorry I’ve been AWOL. So what is Down World? you ask. Oh, I’m so glad you asked! It’s a young adult story of a teen girl who rescues her brother from a portal, where he’s been trapped for three years in another dimension. The book was inspired by the myth of Orpheus descending in Hades to rescue his love Eurydice, but don’t worry, it’s not as boring as all that. It reads like Stranger Things meets Dark. (Did you hear that, Netflix?!)
I will be documenting more of this crazy journey as it continues, but in the meantime, you can pre-order Down World by following this link: books.wattpad.com/down-world
Thank you all for being amazing! I really hope you’re getting through this year from hell in one piece. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. And yes, Jason Momoa is in it. For all of us.
XO,
Rebecca
